Our staff:camper ratio is 2 staff to 13 campers
That's one adult (21+) and one assistant (17+) in each group

Experience specifically working with children in the outdoors (see bios below!)
Darkness to Light training required for all staff
Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certification for adult staff
Van driver training and DMV background check

Aaron is a full-time Latin teacher at Porter-Gaud, and 4th-year Famous Adventures staff. Aaron has an MA in Romance Languages from the University of Georgia. He enjoys all things overly-cerebral, including speaking in dead languages and playing complicated board games. Aaron has also participated in Outward Bound North Carolina and Hurricane Island, and is an avid whitewater rafter, mountain biker, and world-traveler. Challenge him to a game of Super Silent Speed Ball!
Allison is a camp and outdoor enthusiast, and will lead our Fall programs in 2021! Allison has a degree in Family and Child Sciences from FL State University, and she teaches preschool in Mt. Pleasant. She has years of experience working with kids as a teacher, camp counselor, and challenge course facilitator, and she is passionate about learning through play in the outdoors. Her talents include hula hooping while walking backwards and Harry Potter trivia.
Christine is an outdoor enthusiast who is ready to spend her second summer exploring the low country! For the past two years Christine has been a full time 4th grade teacher in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She has her MA in Elementary Education from Lipscomb University and BA in Early Childhood Education from the University of Connecticut. Christine loves everything outdoors and is passionate about learning in nature. In her free time Christine loves reading, biking, camping and going for really long walks!
Jessica Adams has just graduated from Veritas high school. She has worked for YMCA Camp Cherokee, attended two Outward Bound Trips, and volunteers at Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding. She interned with Brooke Haynie, the Outdoor Education Teacher at Charleston Collegiate. She is certified in Wilderness First Aid, CPR, First Aid, and AED. Jessica’s enthusiastic, loves the outdoors, and is always prepared with a pun! This is her third summer with us.
Jonathan has been with Famous Adventures since our first summer! A Porter-Gaud alum, Jonathan just finished his junior year at the Citadel. As if that's not enough distinction, he has also completed multiple trips with North Carolina Outward Bound, including their Leadership Course. Jonathan loves camping and backpacking, and is an amazing mentor for young kids. He's known at camp as "Johann Noodle" or "panda in a human suit."
Kim Copeland is a native of Charleston, born and raised in Summerville. She has a Bachelor's of Science in Business from the College of Charleston, as well as a Bachelor's of Arts in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Education from Western Governors University. She is a 4th grade teacher at Orange Grove Charter School, and joins us for her third summer at camp. In her spare time, she absolutely loves being outdoors! Kayaking is one of her most favorite things, as well as camping and hiking, especially if waterfalls are involved!
